Department of Nutritional Sciences shines at ASN 2026!

The University of Toronto's Department of Nutritional Sciences was prominently recognized at the American Society for Nutrition (ASN) 2026 Annual Meeting, held in Washington, D.C., from July 25 to 28, with faculty members receiving four prestigious honours that reflect the department's leadership in nutrition research, education, and knowledge translation.

Dr. Kevin Klatt received the Sylvia Rowe Award, which recognizes outstanding contributions in translating nutrition science for the public and advancing evidence-based nutrition communication.

Dr. Laura Chiavaroli was honoured with the Nutrition Education for Better Science (NEBS) Early Career Award, recognizing her emerging leadership and significant contributions to nutrition research early in her career.

Dr. John Sievenpiper received the E. V. McCollum Award, one of ASN's distinguished honours, celebrating his internationally recognized contributions to nutrition science and clinical research.

Adding to the department's accomplishments, Dr. Deborah O'Connor was named an ASN Distinguished Fellow, one of the society's highest recognitions, acknowledging her sustained and outstanding contributions to the field of nutrition throughout her career.

Together, these honours highlight the breadth of expertise within the Department of Nutritional Sciences and underscore its continued impact on advancing nutrition science, informing public health policy, and improving health outcomes in Canada and around the world.
