Research in this area aims to improve current understand of the influence of nutrition on health outcomes across the life course, from in utero into adulthood. Examples of research activities in this area include (but are not limited to):
maternal and infant nutrition;
the impact of dietary interventions during pregnancy and lactation on gut microbiota, and on neurocognitive development, growth and body composition;
type 2 diabetes in infants and children;
food intake regulation during puberty and the influences of physiology (e.g., diabetes, obesity) and environment (e.g., television ads);
genetic indicators of increased risk of obesity;
nutrition and chronic disease epidemiology across the life course; and
the impact of nutrient inadequacies and obesity-related chronic disorders on brain health and risk of neurodegenerative diseases.
